The position involves performing administrative duties, providing mentorship to staff, a variety of custodial and facility maintenance tasks, assisting with the management of aquatic programs, and special events. This role requires the individual to demonstrate strong leadership abilities. The Aquatics Program Coordinator is positive and responsive when dealing with the public and is dedicated to providing the best possible service to the community. This position provides direction to the Head Lifeguards and monitors pool use to ensure that the daily operation is following department policies and safety standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate regularly with the Head Lifeguards to ensure a consistent approach to overall leadership of the team; is an effective team player.
- Assist in the development of a staff schedule, adjusting, assigning extra tasks and supporting the Head Lifeguards to fill shift vacancies.
- Supervise Head Lifeguards and all aquatic staff
- Provide coaching and mentorship to Head Lifeguards. Give feedback and offer suggestions to improve program delivery and daily operations of the pool.
- Conduct tasks such as pressure washing, painting, cleaning, inspections, and inventory control.
- Organize and oversee various facility events; these may include swimming lessons, private rentals, aquafit, swim team, and more.
- Expected to keep the facility they work at clean and up to safety standards by performing janitorial maintenance in the aquatic area (office, deck, changerooms, washrooms, pool)
- Perform pool tests and pool maintenance duties.
- Compile necessary facility statistics; provide records and reports regarding daily attendance, water quality and condition, incidents and accidents
- Assists with administration, and development of aquatic programs, activities, and events in compliance with Township policies and procedures, Public Pools Regulation, provincial guidelines and Lifesaving Society.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Satisfactory Criminal Record
- 6 months of Customer Service Experience
- Standard First Aid - CPR “C” Certification, or willing to obtain
- Ability to communicate and exchange information with guests who have inquiries
- Mature, reliable, confident and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
- Works independently and in a team setting.
- Valid Drivers Licence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of lifeguard experience
- Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training Certificate

Please note the Township will cover 50% of the cost to obtain certifications for new lifeguards and 100% of the cost to recertify existing lifeguards.
Lifeguard certifications include: National Lifeguard Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor, Standard First Aid, CPC “C”, Aquatic Supervisor Training (Head Lifeguards).
